It is common, the new year is always greeted enthusiastically by the community. Usually, as the eve of the Christian year changes, people head to the city center to celebrate. Accompanied by blowing trumpets and happy screams, they enjoyed the fireworks and music stages held by the local government (Pemda). The frenetic joy in welcoming the New Year 2021 is now gone.
People can no longer enjoy the 'tradition' of New Years Eve celebrations. Especially in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek), the regional government, supported by the police, has issued a ban on gathering for anyone before the turn of the year. Music stage events in Jakarta, which are usually held at the Hotel Indonesia (HI) Roundabout, by the Provincial Government (Pemprov) this year were not held.
In fact, the DKI Provincial Government has closed several tourist attractions that have the potential to become a tourist destination. Among them are Taman Impian Jaya Ancol in North Jakarta, Ragunan Wildlife Park in South Jakarta, and the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta, and Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) in East Jakarta. Boro-boro held an event, all tourist locations were not operating with the aim of keeping residents at home before the turn of the year.
Not only that, the Polda Metro Jaya even gave an ultimatum to anyone who triggered the crowd on New Year's Eve could be prosecuted. The police also made sure to limit the movement of residents by asking all tourist and entertainment spots to close at a maximum of 17.00 WIB. If they are still stubborn, all of them will be taken firmly for violating the provisions made by the DKI Provincial Government.
"Because there has been a circular from the Governor (DKI) himself regarding crowd activities. So we ensure that all forms of licensing crowds for New Year's Eve will not be issued by Polda Metro Jaya," said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Yusri Yunus, recently.
