The Indonesian government through the Ministry of Defense will purchase C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft from Lockheed Martin and Chinook transport helicopters from the United States. The purchase of heavy transport aircraft to support the defense development architecture.
"In the future Indonesia will buy five units of Hercules transport planes and Chinook helicopters from the US," Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu said in Jakarta on Monday (10/9), responding to a meeting with US Defense Secretary James Mattis in Washington some time ago.
According to Ryamizard, the Hercules transport aircraft owned by Indonesia is old, and President Joko Widodo hopes for the regeneration of the latest heavy transport aircraft. "Aircraft Hercules since 1960. Mr. Jokowi said, the plane is old," said the Defense Minister.
In the meeting with James Mattis, he said, Indonesia also planned to buy Chinook helicopters. "Previously the TNI Headquarters wanted to buy a Mi-26 Heli, but this helicopter was not suitable for operation. Because with a distance of 100 meters, the blast of the propellers could cause the roofs of the residents' houses," he said.
Chinook helicopters, he said, are multipurpose transport helicopters, even US special forces use the helicopter. Minister of Defense added that Indonesia is committed to increasing the capability of the main weaponry system independently in the long term in stages, as well as forging partnerships with friendly countries
