BEM SI Holds Rupiah Action at the Ministry of Finance Office

Students who are members of the All Indonesia BEM (BEM SI) in the Greater Jakarta and Banten regions hold a Bela Rupiah action at the Ministry of Finance office (Ministry of Finance). The crowd protested against the weakening of the rupiah against the US dollar which has occurred lately.

AFP monitoring on Jalan Dr Wahidin Raya, Central Jakarta, Friday (09/14/2018), the crowd gathered in front of the gate of the Ministry of Finance Office. The masses demanded to enter the Ministry of Finance office.

"Open the door, comrades close ranks," the orator shouted to the crowd.

Meanwhile, the police continue to be alert by carrying out safeguards in front of the gate of the Ministry of Finance Office.

"We have prepared security from the Central Jakarta Police Station around 2 companies, there is no road closure. We are persuasive to students, they should not damage it," said AKBP Juang Head of Central Jakarta Police Headquarters at the location.

As a result of the action, traffic in the vicinity of the Banteng Field area to the front of the Ministry of Finance Office appeared to be jammed. Meanwhile, the masses continued to shout their demands and forced them to enter the Ministry of Finance office.

Here are 7 demands of the mass action shouted in front of the Ministry of Finance office;

1. Urge the government to maintain the stability of prices of basic commodities amid the weakening of the rupiah exchange rate without having to intimidate local products.

2. Pressing the government to facilitate access to business loans by keeping credit interest rates low.

3. Encouraging the government to expand exports by looking for alternative export markets and reducing imports.

4. Encourage the public to increase the use of local products and reduce consumption of foreign products.

5. Invite the public not to exchange rupiah into dollars and increase transactions with the rupiah so that the value of the rupiah strengthens and redeemed the dollar so that foreign exchange reserves are maintained in the country, the rupiah will improve again.

6. Emphasize the government in order to facilitate the loading and unloading system at the port which will have an impact on the domestic export system easily abroad.

7. Urge the government to accommodate local products to be better known by the public.
